Middle East/North Africa - Dolphin Project

Dolphin Project

Oxy is a partner in the giant Dolphin Project, the premier transborder natural gas project in the Middle East.

The project, in which Oxy has a 24.5-percent undivided interest, delivers natural gas from Qatar's North Field – one of the world's largest gas reservoirs – to customers in the United Arab Emirates and Oman.

The gas is produced from wells offshore Qatar and processed at the onshore processing and compression plant in Ras Laffan, Qatar, one of the largest facilities of its kind. Each day, this massive plant produces approximately 2 billion cubic feet of natural gas and 200,000 barrels of liquids – a volume about equal to one-third of the average daily natural gas used in California. From Ras Laffan, the processed gas flows through a 48-inch, 230-mile-long subsea export pipeline, which is one of the longest and largest in the Middle East, to markets in the U.A.E. and Oman.

Dolphin began production in the summer of 2007 and reached full operation in February 2008.

The Dolphin Project has had a significant impact in the region, and is expected to be a steady contributor to Oxy's financial performance over the next quarter-century.
